The Random Question Generator
Designed to give a multitude of questions in a given topic quickly and give feedback on your performance just as quickly, the Random Question Generator (RQG) is the centerpiece of KMT Chemistry. Using this program, a student can investigate and practice solving a specific type of problem. However, though the type of the problem is predictable, the actual question is not. This helps a student to answer "How do I answer this type of problem?", rather than "What is the answer to this problem?" - a skills-based approach to independent discovery that will result in lasting understanding.
Data Tracking and Statistics
After setting up a free account, information about the questions a user answers is recorded. Time spent per problem, streak over time, and history of the last twenty problems answered per topic are tracked. In addition, the last twenty questions, with answers, are recorded in the question log, allowing users to review and learn from mistakes made.
Users can allow others to view their statistics by adding them as 'teachers' or 'parents/tutors'. Parents, teachers, and tutors can set up a 'class' and see all students at once.

Achievements and Milestones
Make learning addictive. We use the data tracking process to log user progress over time, and motivate users through a series of attainable badges. For many badges, a 'streak' of sufficient magnitude is required. The RQG tallies an overall streak in addition to a streak for each category of question. For most badges the requirements for award are fully disclosed; some are left to the user to discover.
Future work will center on an experience system which awards points for answering questions, as well as earning badges. In addition, users will be able to display their current badge collections for others.

Instructional Videos
In order to facilitate lasting understanding, users can supplement time on the RQG with videos. These videos will both explain the underlying concepts of the questions on the RQG, but also display problem solving techniques for tackling both the RQG questions and those found on standardized tests.
